Anna Kovacevic is the Development Officer at the Public Defender Association. Anna came to the United States from Germany where she grew up after leaving Bosnia during the civil war of the 1990s. Her experience as a refugee shaped her world view and ignited her passion for social justice. Anna is passionate about ending mass incarceration and building leadership and organizing capacity amongst formerly incarcerated people. After earning her Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Washington, Anna joined PDA as the Executive Assistant in 2015 before moving to New York City in 2016 to pursue a Master of Social Work degree from Columbia University. In NYC, Anna served as the Operations & Programs Manager at the Katal Center for Health, Equity, and Justice where she worked on the #CLOSErikers campaign and supported work to end mass incarceration.
After earning her MSW degree, Anna returned to Seattle and served as the Operations & Development Coordinator at Stand for Children Washington where she drove development and fundraising activities and supported work to ensure all students receive a high-quality education. Anna is thrilled to re-join PDA as the Development Officer where she will use her experience in not-for-profit fundraising and development to manage PDA's foundation and donor relations. Anna uses she/her pronouns. She lives in Seattle, WA with her partner and their cat.
